Clocked vs. Unclocked Parallel Buses?

Question: I get confused about the differences between clocked versus unclocked parallel buses.  Can you clarify?

Answer:   Mixed signal oscilloscopes can typically decode parallel buses using clocked or unclocked formats. An unclocked bus will be decoded using every sample point taken and will show every transition in the bus. This is similar to the timing acquisition display on a logic analyzer. A clocked bus will be decoded using the rising/falling edge of a specified clock.  Therefore, only valid transitions on the bus are shown and any transitions that happen when the data is not valid are excluded. This is similar to the state acquisition display on a logic analyzer.
