Setup & Hold Triggering

Question:  How does setup & hold triggering work?

Answer: Setup and hold triggering works by comparing the timing of the clock to one or more data signals and triggering the oscilloscope when any of the timing specifications are violated. Synchronous digital circuits like flip-flops require the data signals to be stable for a specified time period before the clock edge occurs (setup time) and remain stable for a specified period after the clock edge (hold time). By using setup & hold triggering, you can easily catch and measure any setup or hold time violations on any of the data lines you’re monitoring.
